He operated a family practice in Waterford Township for more than 30 years. Dr. Margolis opened his practice on Elizabeth Lake Road in 1959 and retired in 1993 as his health began to fail. Born in Detroit, he graduated from Central High School in 1948 and Wayne State Univer- sity's pharmacy school six years later. Dr. Margolis received a medical degree from the College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery at the University of Os- teopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1958, and then served an in- ternship at Pontiac Ostheopath- ic Hospital. He was a speaker of the house of delegates of the Michigan Association of Osteo- pathic Physicians and Surgeons and was a former chief of staff at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital. He was a member of Congrega- tion Shaarey Zedek in South- field and past president of its men's club. Dr. Margolis was named Michigan's Family Practitioner of the Year for 1980 and Hon- orary Life Professional Member Family Practice of Michigan in 1993. He also received the Gavel Award from the Michigan Asso- ciation of Osteopathic Physi- cians and Surgeons House of Delegates in 1993. Dr. Margolis is survived by his wife Geraldine; mother, Fay of Oak Park; son, Ira of Bloom- field Hills; daughters and sons- in-law, Marci and Charles Can- vasser of West Bloomfield, Robin and John Pluto of Miami, Fla., Andrea and Jeffrey Still- man of West Bloomfield; grand- children, Alana and Kayla Can- vasser, Liza and Lorna Pluto, Shayna and Seth Stillman. As a student at Berkley High School, she was the winner of the 1996 RPI Science and En- gineering Award, a member and former team captain and club president of a state- and inter- national-award-winning Future Problem Solving team, a letter recipient in music for French horn and a member of the Na- tional Honor Society. She was a figure skater and a member of the Michigan Youth Symphony. Sharon was an active partici- pant and leader in the Habonim Dror youth movement. She is survived by her par- ents, Jeffrey and Michal; sisters, . Natalie and Tammy. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, at Congregation Beth Shalom. JACK SCHWARTZ, 66, of Mt. Clemens, died Jan. 6. Mr. Schwartz was a logistician for the Department of Defense. From 1984 to present he was a real estate broker in Mt. Clemens. Mr. Schwartz was in the United States Air Force dur- ing the Vietnam War and was a retired Lt. Col. in the Air Force Reserve.
