incisor's 1,800 Jews managed to raise over $2
million toward the remodeling of their 35-
year-old Jewish Community Centre/Federa-
tion building on Ouellette Avenue.
In November, the Centre reopened — with
nary a stone left unturned.
Along with a complete facelift of its gym-
nasium, there is a new fitness center with
saunas, a conference room, a library with com-
puters and a teen lounge with computers.
JCC President Gary Katz said the Centre is
toying with the idea of building an indoor pool.
The Province of Ontario provided a
$675,000 Jobs Ontario grant toward the re-
modeling project, which was completed in
eight months.
"We're a pretty amazing city in that here
we are with 1,800 Jews, and we have three
synagogues, a Jewish Community Centre and
a senior citizen home attached to the Centre,"
Mr. Katz said.
