a responsibility as an American
— as a patriotic American — to
raise that issue with Mr.
Qaddafi."
Predictably, Mr. Farrakhan's
latest African vacation incensed
Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., his
staunchest congressional critic.
`This just proves that we need
more hearings to find out about
his real agenda in Libya," said
Mr. King, who is being sued by
the controversial black Muslim
leader. "We will be in touch with
the State Department to urge
them to monitor his activities
very closely."
.
Another Farrakhan
trip to visit
Quaddafi.
Mr. King admitted he can't
seem to generate much interest
in the always-controversial Far-
rakhan among his colleagues.
"Too many people here are
willing to look the other way," he
said. "Maybe it's politically in-
correct to talk about Farrakhan."
Also on the Farrakhan front,
the regional offices of the Anti-
Defamation League and the
American Jewish Congress have
pulled out of an official "Day of
Dialogue" on racial polarization
in Washington because the plan-
ning committee includes a top of-
ficial of the Nation of Islam.
Minister Abdul Muhammad
was chosen by Mayor Marion S.
Barry; the Nation of Islam will
serve as a co-convener of the
event.
"Selecting a representative of
the Nation of Islam to serve on
the convening committee ... un-
dermines the credibility of this
potentially important initiative,"
said ADL regional director David
C. Friedman. "The Nation of Is-
lam is part of the problem, not
part of the solution."
As a result, neither Jewish
group will participate in the Jan.
15 event. ❑
