very day when they
come home from
school my children,
Adina and Yitzhak,
tote a full backpack of drawings,
paintings and other assorted art
work.
Their projects cover our re-
frigerator and our kitchen cabi-
nets, fill scrapbooks, and make
their way to the homes of
grandparents, aunts and uncles.
Just this past week, my
daughter also began bringing
home stories she made up

inhabits, and because they
show me the bright, gentle way
in which children view life.
Take the winter, for example.
To me, it means scraping the ice
off my car window and lost mit-
tens and huge heating bills. To
Adina, it means building snow-
men and bundling up in her
much-loved pink snow pants
and drinking hot chocolate.

In Adina's world, everything is bright and happy.

which her teacher, Lissie Roth-
stein at Yeshivat Akiva, has been
nice enough to transcribe.
They are stories of rainbows
and happy ponies and castles, il-
lustrated with pictures of flow-
ers and smiling girls with bows
in their hair: Everybody always
loves everybody "a lot"
"Once upon a time there was
a pony. And her name was
Rosie," begins one story "And
she had a pretty tail with lots of
colors. And the sun was shining
bright And there was a rain-
bow in the sky. And she was
magical. And all her friends
were magical, too...And the
people loved the ponies a lot"
I love these stories — a lot —
because they tell me what an
enchanting world my daughter

and making snowflakes. It
doesn't have to be all shoveling
the sidewalk and dead car bat-
teries — it really doesn't
