Event Planned

Over 150 Golden Givers will be
honored at an 11 a.m. brunch
Sunday, Dec. 15, at the home of
Steve and Mercy Kasle. Golden
Givers have been giving to the
Washtenaw Jewish Federation
for 25 years or more.
Irving Smokier will be the fea-
tured speaker and will talk about
his recent trip to Siberia on behalf
of the Joint Distribution Com-
mittee.

tions for its 4th annual Eight
Over Eighty Jewish Senior
Adult Hall of Fame.
All contestants must be 80
years of age or older and must
fulfill the following criteria:
working to maintain or strength-
en Jewish identity, dedicating
oneself to a belief or cause, fac-
ing challenges and/or taking
risks to promote a cause and
making a difference by leading
a few in victory over many.

other organizations.

Frita Drapkin
Gives Talk

"Growing Up in a Jewish Immi-
grant Family" will be discussed
by Frita Drapkin when she ap-
pears before Temple Israel's
Treasures at a luncheon meet-
ing, noon Wednesday, Dec. 18,
at the temple.
Frita Drapkin arrived in the
United States during the 1920s
from the Carpathian Mountains
in Hungary, with the ability to
speak four languages, none Eng-
lish. She retired from teaching
in the Detroit Public Schools af-
ter 30 years and does volunteer,
work with seniors. She is pres-
ident of the Detroit Chapter of
Jewish Women International.
There is a charge for the lun-
cheon. For reservations and in-
