Every Chanukah, Jews around
the world commemorate the
miraculous events of how the
Maccabees recaptured the Tem-
ple in Jerusalem and how one
day's worth of oil lasted for eight
days. As families in our commu-
nity light the menorah for eight
days, they create their own spe-
cial tradition for the holiday.
Whether it's the retelling of
the Chanukah story, lighting the
menorah, spinning the dreidel,
exchanging gifts or cooking pota-
to latkes, the Festival of Lights
brings families closer together.
Our first Gift Guide featured a
story on how four different fam-
ilies celebrate the holiday. For
some, gifts are exchanged; for
others, it is not even part of the
holiday.
This year, as in the past, we
have two separate Gift Guides.
Our Gift Guide I cover featured
the lighting of a menorah. The
Gift Guide II cover features
brightly wrapped gifts and many
gift items. We hope our two Gift
Guides are helpful in planning
your holiday.
However you celebrate
Chanukah and whatever tradi-
tion you honor, this is a time to
remember, "A great miracle hap-
pened there."
