At Temple Israel

Harold Orbach and
Mikhal Shift' Matter will
offer a sermon in song ti-
tled "Light: The Symbol
of Holiness." The Tem-
ple Israel Choir and
=c) Choral Group, directed
by Benjamin Cohen, also
will participate.
Cantor Shiff-Matter,
a graduate of Hebrew Cantor Shiff-Matter
Union College School of
Sacred Music, teaches at the college in Jerusalem. She is
a native of Florida. After graduating from the University
of Miami, she continued her vocal studies at Manhattan
School of Music before receiving her master's degree in sa-
cred music at Hebrew Union College. She has sung in con-
cert with the New Israel Opera and the Jerusalem Madrigal
Singers, as well as on radio and television.

the Zionist Organization of America at the Detroit Opera House were Johanna

Is Planned

Community and adult educator Susann Codish will
lead a Rosh Chodesh text study session for the new He-
brew month of Tevet 7:45
p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, at
Congregation B'nai Moshe.
The program is free and
open to the community.
Susann Codish is a
teacher at Akiva Hebrew
Day School. She also has
taught text study classes at
Midrasha and currently
leads a number of adult
study groups throughout the
metro Detroit area. She is
president of Or Chadash, a
new congregation based in
Oak Park. Her topic for the
upcoming Rosh Chodesh
session will be "The Mid-
wives in Egypt: Jewish
Resistance, or Righteous Susann Codish
Gentiles?"

Dr. Michael Nevins

Adat Shalom Synagogue will host Dr. Michael Nevins, who will provide a glimpse into the
world of medicine as it has been practiced by Jewish doctors from Talmudic times to the
present, 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4 at the synagogue.
Dr. Nevins will draw upon material from his book The Jewish Doctor. Dr. Nevins has
practiced internal medicine and cardiology in northern New Jersey since 1968.
There is no charge.
