Little Daddy's, slated to open around March of next year, will be owned by Rick Rogow, Tommy Peristeris and Jimmy Zavradinos .. It will have a similar menu to that of Rick and Tommy's Big Daddy's Parthenon on Orchard Lake Road ... except for no lamb chops or steaks ... Their award- winning Tommy Salad will be featured at the 200-seater Little Daddy's. UTTERLY RIDICULOUS ... There are no other words to de- scribe the placing of Cafe Cortina among those listed on a recent WDIV-TV telecast of its so-called "Dirty Dozen." The Oakland County Health Department inspector made a mistake when she told them that their herb garden (of 20 years) had to go ... After Adrian Tonon tore it out, the inspector came back and said it was an error on her part ... Rina Tonon, Adrian's mother, blew her stack ... It had been the pride and joy of her late husband, Adriano. Here is what the 61 or 64 score was about, with points taken off for each violation ... none having > anything to do with health: Employees drinking from open cups not with lid and straw, no closer for back door to shut by it- self, self-closer in the screen door didn't work properly, no cover on the waste receptacle in the women's washroom, no shield on light in walk-in cooler, at back door and in storage area outside the office, items in a shed not six inches off the floor (even though all were extra boxes of glasses, candles, etc.), a worn gasket and a gasket not secure at the walk- in. Cafe Cortina is noted as one of the cleanest restaurants around ... and far-and-away not in the company of those whose tidiness is suspect. CONGRATS ... to Leonard Silber ... on his 70th birthday ... to John Cetrone and the buddy he calls his "older brother," An- tonio Foglia, on their birthdays ... To Flossie and Leon Maloff on their 50th anniversary ... cele- brated with children and imme- diate family at Arriva. BEST BET Of The Weekend ... Chocolate Jubilee, Sunday, Nov. 24, at Ritz-Carlton, Dear- born, by Alzheimer's Association ... Patron luncheon 12 noon ... Ju- bilee tasting from over 35 choco- latiers and restaurateurs 2:30 to 4 p.m. FORMER OWNER of Pickle Barrel, Al Winkler, has worked out a franchise agreement with Ron Forman of Bread Basket Deli ... and is back in action again. It is called Bread Basket Deli & Bakery, on Grand River just north of Eight Mile in Farming- ton Hills ... Except for bagels made fresh by Al, plus the cream cheeses, his menu is similar to that of the Bread Basket on Greenfield and 101/2 Mile. THE FRUIT FLAN that came to The Jewish News office was too beautiful to eat ... so I took it home ... and it was devoured in the time it takes to say "lip- smackin' good." I left the chocolate mousse cake for the JN staffers to see ... What a laugh ... It was gone faster than the Hope diamond at a thieves convention. Both were by Sweet Dreams in Bloomfield Plaza, Telegraph and Maple. Seems that owners Sam and brother Michel Daher (pastry chef for the Saudi Arabian royal fam- ily before coming here) have been making quite a name for them- selves in the realm of cake and pastry making ... Especially on those custom-designed wedding and bar mitzvah cakes. And if you haven't tasted the Granny Smith apple pie made at Sweet Dreams, those who have say there's nothing quite like it ... It's part of the delicious-look- ing line put out by the brothers ... Too good-lookin' to eat, but much more satisfaction when they are. Guess if those cakes and pas- tries were good enough for the royal family in Saudi Arabia, they should be OK for The Jewish News guys and gals. ❑ ..1,1 .1 • a:. .2, • ••‘ '7 , r - -L*-‘161 ,1,•. z•F•,,to, - • . •■• jiathi jhanheat 3DA 65, • ing, boiling and fermentation are done at King's Brewery in Ponti- ac. Coming soon, if not already here, is a hon- ey-brew beer called Honey Bee. Another Memphis Smoke is ex- pected to open in Ann Arbor the middle of 1997. Memphis Smoke features beef ribs barbecued the exact same way as the others ... And accord- ing to many, they can hardly taste the difference.
