Jonathan D. Sarna will address
a major issue facing Jewish com-
munities - continuity - 7:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Dec. 4, at the
Maple-Drake Jewish Commu-
nity Center. He will speak on
"Learning From History: A Dis-
cussion of the Emergence of
American Judaism and Its Im-
plications for Jewish Continu-
ity."
Dr. Sarna is the Joseph H.
and Belle R. Braun professor of
American Jewish History at
Brandeis University. His arti-
cles and reviews have appeared
in numerous journals.
The lecture is sponsored by
the Jewish Federation of Met-
ropolitan Detroit and the Cohn-
Haddow Center for Judaic Stud-
ies at Wayne State University.

Hebrew Classes

A Hebrew Program is set for
winter 1997 on Wayne State
University's main campus and
at the Farmington Hills exten-
sion center.
Edith Covensky, poetess and
lecturer in Hebrew language and
literature will teach during the
winter semester: Hebrew lan-
2J guage 102, 202 and 590 on the
main campus and Hebrew 204
in Farmington Hills. Hebrew
204 is a literature class from the
end of the 19th century to the
present. The class is taught in
English. (Texts are available
both in English and Hebrew.)
