If you've ever imagined yourself
taking a dream vacation to

Champs Elysees, basking in the
sun on the Mediterranean coast
and attending Shabbat services
in a uniquely French synagogue.
Well, maybe that last vision
did not appear crystal clear in
your fantasy, but it most cer-
tainly can.
With more than 700,000 Jews,
France has a higher Jewish pop-
ulation than almost every other
European country. It also has nu-
merous kosher restaurants, syn-
agogues, Jewish museums and
memorials.
Although Paris, with more
than half the nation's Jews, is the
capital of Jewish France, vibrant
Jewish communities can be found
throughout the country —
everywhere from the bustling
cities of Lyon, Bordeaux and
Marseilles, to the sun-drenched
French Riviera, the Normandy
region and even the heart of
French wine country.
Many times, even the smallest
French town has a close-knit
Jewish community and syna-
gogue.
In fact, Jewish travel in France
has generated so much interest
that the France Tourism Board
publishes an informative book-
let, France for the Jewish Trav-
eller, outlining the history of Jews
in France. It includes notable
French Jews and a guide to most
synagogues, museums, kosher
restaurants and hotels through-
out the country.
