Humanist Forum
Lecture Series

At 8:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11,
the Birmingham Temple will
preSent Donald Warren, profes-
sor of history at Oakland Uni-
versity, who will discuss "Father
Coughlin's Kristallnacht Address
and American Antisemitism."
Professor Warren has written a
biography, Radio Priest, about
Father Charles Coughlin.
There is no charge. Questions
from the floor will follow the pre-
sentations.

B'nai Moshe
Study Day

Rabbi Debra Orenstein, this
year's Conservative community
scholar in residence, will lead a
full day of Shabbat learning at
Congregation B'nai Moshe, Sat-
urday, Nov. 16.
There is no charge, but pre-
registration is requested to plan
refreshments, seating, and, if
needed, parallel activities for chil-
dren.
Rabbi Orenstein will deliver
the sermon following the Torah
service on Shabbat morning. Her
subject will be, "New Perspectives
on Lifecycle, Spirituality, and
Gender." At 12:30 p.m., immedi-
ately after kiddush, she will lead
a follow-up session on her sermon
topic, including question-and-an-
swer time. At 2 p.m., Rabbi Oren-
stein will lead a study session
titled "New Jewish Rituals." A
brief Minchah service will be held
at 4 p.m., followed by se'udah
shlishit. At 4:45 p.m., Rabbi Oren-
stein will lead a pre-Havdalah
study session titled "Accompany-
ing the Shabbat Bride: Honoring
the Spirit of Shabbat, Entering
the Spirit of the Week."
Ma'ariv and Havdalah will
conclude the day, with the pro-
gram ending at 6 p.m. In be-
tween the study sessions, there
will be refreshments and oppor-
tunities for socializing, reading,
and singing.
