Applebaums Create
Challenge Fund

COMMUNITY

Rabbi Debra Orenstein be-
gins scholar in residence pro-
gram, 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1,
at Adat Shalom Synagogue.

Eugene and Marcia Applebaum have created an Allied Jew-
ish Campaign Challenge Fund to inspire contributors to in-
crease their gifts to the 1997 Campaign.
The annual appeal of the Jewish Federation of Metropoli-
tan Detroit supports more than 60 agencies in Detroit, Israel
and 58 countries throughout the world. The challenge fund
will match dollar for dollar each donor's increase over last
year's gift. New contributors' gifts will be doubled.
The '97 Campaign, based on the theme "No Gift Touches
More Lives," is especially critical since recent legislation will
greatly reduce welfare benefits to people at risk currently re-
lying on government help.
Chairman of the board, president and chief executive offi-
cer of Arbor Drugs Inc., Mr. Applebaum is the president of
the Eugene and Marcia A. Applebaum Supporting Founda-
tion created through the United Jewish
Foundation created through the United Eugene and Marcia
Applebaum
Jewish Foundation.
