His 26- year-old son Mark recently com- pleted the circle when he joined Federation as a Campaign asso- ciate. "Obviously, there's a Berke love for the Federation," Michael Berke laughed. After a few years in the now- defunct Mercantile and Food di- visions at Federation, Mr. Berke became the executive director at Hillel Day School, returning af- ter nearly four years to assume the position of administrative as- sistant to former Campaign di- rector Sol Drachler. When he made it official, his colleagues were not happy, "but they were happy for me," he ad- mitted. `This is something that is very important for me. If I didn't do it now, who knows? The timing is very right for me. I still am able to maintain a very close rela- tionship with the Federation, one that excites me and gives me the opportunity to pursue some dif- ferent challenges." ❑
