Voice Of The Cantor Heard In The Land

Calendar

"Voice of the Cantor" will be the theme
for the upcoming concert in Temple Is-
real's Schmier Chapel Chamber Se-
ries to take place 7:30 p.m. Sunday,
Nov. 3, at the temple. Featuring Joel
Colman and Steven Weiss, the pro-
gram is co-sponsored by Temple Is-
rael's Temple Treasures.
Joel Colman is the cantor and di-
rector of education at Greenwich Re-
form Synagogue in Greenwich, Conn.
Steven Weiss serves as contor at Tem-
ple Kol Emeth in Marietta, Ga.

Rabbi Orenstein Will Be
Adat Shalom Scholar

Rabbi Debra Orenstein will launch her visit as scholar
in residence to the Detroit Jewish Community at Adat
Shalom Synagogue Friday, Nov. 1, through Sunday, Nov.
3. She will join the congregation for services and a fam-
ily dinner and program on Friday evening, will deliver
the sermon on Shabbat morning, and will participate
in a Sunday morning Tallit 'n Tefillin program. Rabbi
Orenstein also will address Adat Shalmom Sisterhood
members on Nov. 3 at the group's annual Torah Fund
program.
The Shabbat evening dinner will follow services at 5:45
p.m. At its conclusion, Rabbi Orenstien will speak on 'The
Meanings of Ritual." At the same time, younsters will at-
tend a special program featuring a storyteller. There is
a $12 charge for adults and an $8 fee for children.
Rabbi Orenstein will speak on Shabbat on "If God is
Good...The Problem of Evil."
At the Tsllit 'n Tefillin program on Sunday morning,
Rabbi Orenstein will explore "Jewish Views of God."
The Nov. 3 Torah Fund event will honor sisterhood
Toah readers. Rabbi Orenstein will speak on "My Life As
a Rabbi in the Age of the Women's Movement." The 11
a.m. brunch will be held at the home of Florin Mark
Ross.
