Bathing Safety For The Entire Family

More than 5,000 children are scalded by hot water in the tub
each year, according to the National Safe Kids Campaign
prompting manufacturers to respond with several engineering
breakthroughs.
One innovation from Delta is the patented scald-guard pres-
sure-balance valve that keeps water temperature within a safe
±1-3°F of initial setting. This prevents temperature shocks from
sudden pressure changes in cold or hot water, whether a toilet
is flushed or dishwasher turned on, your shower is never inter-
rupted.
A safety stop set at 100 degrees prevents children from acci-
dentally scalding themselves.
Almost all 50 states now require that these types of safety
valves be used in all new construction.

Hundreds attend a forum highlighting
key national races.

s the pre-election political
clock ticks away, voter ed-
ucation becomes increas-
ingly important. This is
particularly true in the Jewish
community, where election-day
participation is not as high as it
once was.
However, if attendance at a
Sunday morning re-
cent political forum is
a barometer of Jewish
voter participation in
November, trends
could be reversed. Or-
ganizers estimate 300-
400 turned out for a

is not the deciding voice. The far

Metropolitan Detroit Council
of Synagogues and Temples,
sponsors of the event, invited
all candidates for the U.S. Sen-
ate and U.S. House 11th and
12th Districts to participate.
Many candidates for local
offices also took advantage of
the program, held on Sunday
at Temple Israel, to shake
hands with voters and dis-
tribute campaign literature.
Their opportunity to address
the Jewish community from
the podium came last month
when a similar forum was
held for local races.
Speaking first, on behalf of
Bob Dole, was former Oakland
County Republican Chairman
Jim Alexander. Former Michi-
gan Gov. Jim Blanchard ap-
peared on behalf of President
Clinton.
Mr. Blanchard, at
times sounding more
like an office-seeker
himself, praised the
Jewish community for
its support.
Mr. Alexander re- *
sponded to a question on the
influence of the religious right in
the Republican Party. "Both par-
ties are made of coalitions of
