45th Annual Jewish Book Fair Celebrating Our Sapphire Anniversary 1951-1996 Thursday, November 14 Saturday, November 9 Abraham's goodness, mercy and love of his fellow man even induced him to challenge God, Himself, to spare the absolutely wicked people of Sodom—what a contrast to Noah! Abraham was well aware of the real challenge to the truly righteous and is quoted by his trusted slave referring to God as: "the one whom I go before" (Gen- esis 24:40). Likewise Jacob in blessing Joseph says (Genesos 48:15): "... the God whom my fathers Abra- ham and Isaac went before ..." The progenitors of the Jewish People knew the difference be- tween the real tzadik (righteous one) and the relative tzadik. The real tzadik with every passing moment and breath in his life continually pursues true right- eousness and real piety by push- ing himself to improve his relationship with his fellow man—all men—and with the Di- vine. The relative tzadik is self-sat- isfied and content that his be- havior is better than that of those around him, but this very con- tempt of others in itself belies his righteousness and piety. 111 Telshe Yeshiva Parlor Talk Native Detroiter Rabbi Avrohom Chaim Levin, rash h'yeshiva and president of Telshe Yeshiva– Chicago, will discuss the growth of post-graduate Torah study over the past century and look ahead to the year 2000 at a par- lor meeting.
