f this Super Sunday's returns
were any indication, organiz-
ers of the Allied Jewish Cam-
paign are well on their way to
topping last year's total of $27.6
million in pledges.
As 340 volunteers spent the
day dialing for dollars in the Max
M. Fisher Building, the totals in
pledges vaulted over the amount
committed on a similar Sunday
last year. From 3,500 givers, about
$800,000 was pledged this past
weekend; last year, 3,120 people
promised to contribute $566,250.
The increase was attributed to
the media coverage of impending
cuts in federal spending on pro-
grams benefiting
the poor and im- Mira Zeevi tries
migrants. "We to listen to the
are still getting pledge maker
over the din.
1,000 Russians a
week in Israel
and more in the United States,"
said Allied Jewish Campaign co-
chair Susie Citrin. "The need is
greater this year."
Also, she said, volunteers head-

ed by Super Sunday co-chairs
Kathy Wilson Fink and Daniel
Greenberg worked hard to sur-
pass last year's Super Sunday to-
tal.
"In the evening, the Young
Adult Division came to do their
part and that was exciting to see,"
said Ms. Citrin, who co-chairs the
annual Campaign with Oscar
Feldman. 'They are the future of
our community."
