CIS CO UNT SAL_
White Goose Down Quilts and Bed Pillows

My husband Joel, the chef in
the house since he banned
me from the kitchen a week af-
ter we were married, never over-
cooks things. But after following
the directions to the letter, the
vegetables were overdone and in-
distinguishable from each other;
the green pepper tasted like the
red pepper which tasted like the
onion. The chicken was mushy
and overly spiced.
My husband rolled the tortillas
around the chicken and vegetable
mix, making five small fajitas.
There wasn't enough mix for the
eight fajitas the manufacturer
claims the package contains. And
the contents all together only fed
two of us, with no leftovers; in
fact, we were both still hungry as
we cleaned up the dishes.
The worst part was reading
the nutrition facts on the pack-
age's label after finishing the
meal. At 450 milligrams of sodi-
um per serving, I had consumed
1,420 sodium milligrams while
my husband had polished off
2,160 milligrams. I nearly had
a stroke.
"Don't do this to me again,"
Joel warned me. "People have di-
vorced for less."
Jewish News staffers Jennifer
Finer and Sy Manello both of-
fered to be guinea pigs, trying
the pasta and stir-fry meals re-
spectively. Both found their Ex-
press Meals at Farmer Jack
stores in the metropolitan De-
troit area
Neither liked the meals, giv-
ing them a forks-down rating.
"No matter how you defrost it,
a frozen meal is still a frozen
meal, and Empire's chicken with
pasta dish is no exception," Ms.
Finer said. "While dinner was ed-
ible, it's not something I'd rush
to make again."
Mr. Manello, who split the
meal with his wife, Pearl, lament-
ed the fact that the vegetables be-
came overcooked and the spicy
sauce was absorbed by the rice
more so than by the chicken. The
scant size of the servings also sur-
prised the pair.
"The package claims that it
contains six one-cup servings. A
person could starve on one cup,"
he said. "If one was on an ex-
treme diet, that serving might do,
but a dieter would not want all
that salt."
He suggested an alternative:
Buy the items separately and
make a larger meal to serve more
people for less.
"It is an overpriced meal," said
Mr. Manello. "Forks down!" ❑
