"Being Cool' Series
At Beth Shalom

The Religious School Parents of
Congregation Beth Shalom will
present a talk and discussion by
Dr. Joseph Lewis on "Being Cool
in Shul." The program, the first
presentation of the "Parents Can
,DLearn, Too" series, is scheduled
(for 9:15 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, at
the synagogue.
Dr. Lewis is the director of
marketing services and commu-
nications for the Royal Mac-
cabbees Life Insurance Company
in Southfield. He is also the
founder and publisher of Singlish
Publications, and author of The
Join In, Participate Singalong
\— Hagadah, The Join-In, Partici-
pate, Singalong Bircon Hamazot,
and the upcoming Friday Night
Service.
During the High Holidays, Dr.
Lewis served as cantor at the
Jimmy Prentis Morris Jewish
Community Center.
Dr. Lewis will explore the im-
portant parts of the Shabbat ser-
vice.
The "Parents Can Learn, Too"
monthly programs are free to the
general public, but are expecial-
ly intended for parents of children
attending religious schools in the
Detroit area. Future topics in-
clude: getting the most out of the
public and religious schools; bud-
get travel in Israel; and how to
bring the holidays into your
\_ home.

Family Shabbat
Families with children in kinder-
garten through grade 2 are in-
vited to participate in "Tefillot
Together," an informal, partici-
patory family Shabbat experience
at Congregation B'nai Moshe,
10:30-11:15 a.m. Saturday, Oct.
12.
"Tefillot Together" features
songs, stories, and prayers in a
relaxed atmosphere. It is offered
approximately once a month, ro-
tating among different age
groups.

Thursday, eight days prior to is-
sue date. The deadline for birth
announcements is 10 a.m. Mon-
day, four days prior to issue date;
out-of-town obituaries, 10 a.m.
Tuesday, three days prior to issue
date.
