Development
Workshops At JFS

The Parent to Parent Series giv-
en by Sara Eisemann at Jewish
Family Service will discuss re-
alistic expectations for a child's
growth and development, disci-
pline through consequences, and
practical techniques for specific
age groups.
Separate workshops will tar-
get the pre-school child from in-
fancy through age 5 and the
early school child from 6-12.
The workshops will be pre-
sented at the Jewish Commu-
nity Center in Oak Park
on Tuesday evenings from
7:30-9 p.m. The second work-
shop for Stage One (pre-school)
is scheduled for Oct. 15 and
Stage Two (early school) is
scheduled for Oct. 22 and 29.
The workshops are free of

Art, Stories For
Single Mothers

Single Jewish mothers and
their friends are invited to an
evening of art and storytelling

7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, at
the Wetsman Collection, 132
North Woodward Ave., Birm-
ingham.
The program will begin with
a tour of the exhibition, "Asafo!
African Flags of the Fante Peo-
ple of Ghana" led by the asso-
ciate curator of African Art at
the Detroit Institute of Art,
Camille Brewer.
Following the tour, Corinne
Stavish will tell African and
Jewish stories. The evening
will end with a reception fea-
turing Ethiopian food. There
will also be time for single Jew-
ish mothers to network and so-
cialize.
The program is free of charge.

Hate Discussion
Series To Start

Congregation B'nai Moshe will
present a three-part Thursday
Lunch and Learn series entitled,
"When Hate Comes to Town,"
featuring Rabbi Marla Feldman,
deputy director for domestic con-
cerns of the Jewish Communi-
ty Council.
The series will meet in the
ground-floor conference room
suite of the Jewish Federation
of Metropolitan Detroit, in the
Max Fisher Building. The
session dates are Oct. 17, 24 and
31.
Adult learners are invited to
bring their own brown-bag dairy
or pareve lunch to eat between
noon and 12:30 p.m. The study
sessions will run from 12:30 to
1:30 p.m.
The series will examine
contemporary anti-Semitism,
including classic hate groups
such as the KKK, as well as
anti-Semitism in parts of the
African-American community.
Participants will be invited to
brainstorm effective responses
to situations which have arisen
in various communities.
There is no charge for the se-
ries, which is part of Kolel
Moshe, B'nai Moshe's new adult
Jewish learning project. Reser-
vations are suggested.
