"pretty worried."

Katz of Bar-Ilan University's
Community Research Institute,
established that support for Mr.

Netanyahu is falling; that most
Israelis believe Mr. Arafat can-
not be trusted to carry out agree-
ments; and that fear is growing
that the Palestinian police will
open fire again if and when the
chips are down.
As Yossi Beilin, an architect of
the Oslo process and former La-
bor cabinet minister, said last
week: "Violence does play a very
important role, regretfully, in the
Middle East conflict, whether it
is violence from the side of the Is-
raelis, violence from the side of
Hamas, or even violence from the
side of the Palestinian police." ❑
