Luther Statement To Be Marked JODI CARRIS SPECIAL TO THE JEWISH NEWS The Southeast Michigan Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church and the American Jew- ish Committee will co-host a his- toric gathering Sunday, Oct. 20. Rabbi. Rudin: Historic event. The two groups will com- memorate the statement two years ago by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) repudiating the anti- Semitism of Protestant Church founder Martin Luther. The program, open to the pub- lic, will feature the AJCommit- tee's Rabbi A. James Rudin and Professor Franklin Sherman of Muhlenberg College, an institute of the ELCA. Rabbi Rudin is national in- terreligious affairs director of the AJCommittee. Professor Sher- man recently retired as director of the Institute of Jewish-Chris- tian Understanding at Muhlen- berg College. The Oct. 20 event will be held 4 p.m. at Lutheran Church of the Master, 3333 Coolidge, Troy.
