Soup Is Subject
Of TV Reporter

Channel 7 news reporter Mike
Huckman will be the celebrity
storyteller at the "Souper"
Kosher Food Fair, 1-4 p.m. Sun-
day, Oct. 20, at the Jimmy Pren-
tis Morris Jewish Community
Center. Mr. Huckman will read
the children's book Stone Soup.
The day will include a soup
cookoff, cooking demonstrations
and activities and entertain-
ment for children. Food writer,
chef and cooking instructor
Annabel Cohen will serve as a
judge for the soup cookoff and
provide a cooking demonstra-
tion. Restaurateur Matt Pren-
tice also will give a
demonstration.
Decorative holiday and Shab-
bat tables will be on display, and
22 food-related businesses and
health organizations will have
exhibits.
All soup cookoff entries must
be made with kosher ingredi-
ents, and recipes must adhere
to kosher dietary laws. Contest
pre-registration with the Neigh-
borhood Project is required.
Judging will take place on the
day of the event. There is no
charge to enter the contest.
First, second and third prizes
will be awarded.
Sponsors of the Kosher Food
Fair are the Neighborhood Pro-
ject, the Jewish Center,
Franklin Bank and the B. Man-
ishchewitz Co.
Admission to the Kosher Food
Fair is by a kosher food dona-
tion to the Yad Ezra Kosher
Food Pantry. Cash donations
also will be accepted.
The Neighborhood Project, a
program of the Jewish Federa-
tion of Metropolitan Detroit,
seeks to enhance the vitality
and growth of the neighbor-
hoods of Oak Park and South-
field.

BBYO Announces
1997 Directors

Paula Goldman-Spinner will
serve as the chairman of the
Michigan Region BBYO Board
of Directors for 1996-97. Other
executive board members in-
clude Darrin Elias, Ilene Lubin,
Michelle Soltz and Deborah
Stern, vice-chairmen; Francine
Snyder, secretary; Irwin Alter-
man, David Bittker, Bruce
Gorosh and Steve Schanes, del-
egates-at-large.
General board members serv-
ing to 1997 are Ricky Blumen-
stein, Doug Finegood, Henry
Goldberg, Fred Goldenberg,
Lawrence Hyman, Janice Lach-

man, Elie Morris, David Rosen,
Rick Segal, Eva Shapiro, Joel
Snyder, Adrienne Sweet, Aron
Weberman, Alana Zaks and
Amy Zimmerman.
General board members serv-

A focus of this year's board is
parent communication and ed-
ucation. Deborah Stern will
chair the Parent Education
Committee. During the months
of October and November, each
AZA and BBG chapter is being
encouraged to hold a parent ed-
ucation meeting to inform par-
ents on the chapter and council
programs and enlist parent in-
volvement to help the chapter
have a successful year.
The new young leadership
chairs were recently selected at
the executive meetings of the
AZA and BBG Councils. The
new chairs are Sarit Ashmann,
Shira BBG; Aimee Dorfman,
Ahava BBG; Carl Seidman,
Chalutzim AZA; Danny
Krochmanl, Kishon AZA. The
young leadership conclaves will
be held in February, 1997, at the
Milan Conference Center.
The Kickoff Dance of Michi-
gan Region BBYO will be held
Saturday evening, Oct. 12, at
the Maple Drake Jewish Com-
munity Center. To be admitted
free to the dance, a member
must be registered by Monday,
Oct. 7. There will be a $5 ad-
mission charge for all prospec:
tive and non-registered
members.
The due date for Fall Con-
clave applications is Friday, Oct.
11. Fall Conclave will be held
the weekend of Oct. 25-27, at
Camp Maas.
BBYO is seeking volunteer
advisors for the AZA and BBG
