INVITE

Nuremberg-style courts." And
not to be outdone, Yated Ne'eman
said that "the secularists are
blood-suckers who are here un-
der false pretenses, living in a
land that belongs to us."
Also critical of press coverage
are the politicians. For like Bill
Clinton, Mr. Netanyahu is an-
noyed at the way the media
spotlights his foibles and those
of his wife and advisors.

But, as is pointed out in an
article by columnist B. Michael
— "The Underwear of the Over-
lords" — he can't do anything
about it. "A person who dreams
of rising to the top in public life
should realize that he will no
longer have a private life if he
achieves his ambition. Every-
thing he does will be subjected
to scrutiny. It will be as if four
cameras are always focused on
him, as if seven microphones al-
ways stand ready to eavesdrop
on his every word, as if a dozen
journalists, pens in hand, will
always hover around him like a
swarm of angry mosquitos. And
if he does try to keep something
private, that will probably be his
undoing."
So even if the proposed bill
prevents the press from men-
tioning the ethnic origins of
criminals, it won't stop journal-
ists from reporting on the
private misbehavior of politi-
cians. ❑

,NOASSq,

If the Yisrael B'
initiative is successful, the
front page of a recent Yediot
Ahronot supplement will
presumably be the last of
its kind in that popular

newspaper. Its two he.adlines
read:
"The Russian Mafia Has
More than 35 Representa-

tives In Israel"
"These Guys Make The

Italian Mafia Look Like
Amateurs."
Below those headlines
there was a large photograph
of four attractive young
women. It was captioned: "A
group of Ru,ssian prostitutes
>awaiting deportation." F.:3
