I'll give the makers this: The
directions are easy to follow. One
has to add only a half cup of wa-
ter to the mix, grease a pan (ex-
tra calories? I think so), and put
the concoction into a heated
oven.
But that is where the praise
stops.
Take the batter, for example.
\—i Batter is important in my fam-
ily. Frequently, my husband and
I will fight over who gets to lick
the bowl. This time we did not
fight; we gave. the bowl to the
dogs. The batter is very grainy
and leaves a thick aftertaste.
The brownies themselves
earned mixed reviews, but nei-
ther my husband (an adventur-
ous diner who once made sauce
from cans of salmon and baked
beans) nor I thought they were
anything special. They weren't
gooey, chewy or moist, by our
standards, and the chocolate
taste lingered like a coat of fresh
paint on our tongues. They were
OK, but I wouldn't recommend
them.
The Jewish News staff offered
mixed reviews.
