Egypt and Jordan, the two Arab
states that have signed peace
treaties with Israel, to keep their
distance.
The Foreign Minister, David
Levy, had already summoned
the Egyptian ambassador, Mo-
hammed Bassiouny, to protest
harsh attacks by politicians and
the media against the Ne-
tanyahu government. Cairo crit-
icism climaxed on Monday,
when the Egyptian Deputy For-
eign Minister, Fathi Shazli, said
Netanyahu needed a psychia-
trist to treat his "sick fears on
all that pertains to security."
That was a far cry from the
June Cairo summit when Pres-
ident Hosni Mubarak persuad-
ed his fellow Arab rulers to give
Mr. Netanyahu time to show
that he meant to follow, howev-
er reluctantly, in the footsteps
of Yitzhak Rabin and Shimon
Peres.
On the Jordanian front,
Crown Prince Hassan has post-
poned a visit to Israel, planned
for early October. Jerusalem cit-
ed "technical reasons," but the
Israeli press reported that the
Hashemites did not want to be
seen as Mr. Netanyahu's only
Arab friends. CI

New York (JTA) — Tower Air
has begun a new service to ac-
commodate Orthodox passen-
gers flying between New York
and Tel Aviv.
Designated flights have a sec-
tion where no audio and video
entertainment is offered, and
passengers are served only by
male flight attendants.
The flights serve "superglatt"
kosher meals to everyone, in-
cluding the crew, said Simon
Grossman, a senior account ex-
ecutive at Tower Air. Special
check-in counters at the airport
have been staffed with male
passenger agents only.
"We had too many people
making requests. I couldn't ful-
fill the requests," Mr. Grossman
said. "The success of this has
been tremendous."
The requests are restricted to
flights before religious holidays
and when students travel to Is-
rael to study, after Passover and
after Sukkot.
Tower Air is the first airline
to change its procedures to ac-
commodate requests by the Or-
thodox community.
