Tapping a potentially rich source of urban boosters, Detroit Mayor Dennis Archer will address a group of professionals and busi- nesspeople at Tuesday's meeting /— of the Jewish Business Exchange. The mayor is the first speaker of renown invited to speak to the fledgling networking group, which was formed in early summer. "We sat down and did some brainstorming, and we felt very strongly that in order to enhance our position in the community and bring us credibility, we had to bring in somebody with a name who would have relevance to what we do," says Marilyn Beim, JBE's vice president of media, market- ing and membership and presi- dent of Media Resources in West Bloomfield. Mayor Archer has been asked to speak on Detroit's reemergence as an international urban center and how Jewish business leaders might take part. "I think the mayor has a lot to offer the Jewish community as far as building bridges between the two communities. One thing Jew- ish Business Exchange does is of- fer members a way to improve their businesses. I thought the mayor could help members learn ways to get involved in the eco- nomics of Detroit," says Rabbi Her- shel Finman, a founder of the JBE. ; The meeting starts at 7:30 a.m. at the Max M. Fisher Building on Telegraph in West Bloomfield. So far, the JBE gatherings have attracted an average of 30 people. Ms. Beim expects a crowd Tues- day of between 150 and 200. Opening remarks will be giv- en by Weight Watchers Group President Florin Mark.
