home.
Another group of "guests,"
or ushpizin, you may want to
invite into your sukkah are
biblical heroes. It is traditional
among some Jews to extend a
symbolic welcome to Abra-
ham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses,
Aaron, Joseph and David.
Fortunately, these guests
won't be eating too much. ❑

ou can do just about anything with them: make pies and
cider, sauce and muffins, cakes and caramel-covered can-
dy.
It's a lot of fun picking apples, too, and they stay fresh for a
long time.
Numerous local orchards offer apple picking
through the end of November. If you

have toddlers, be sure to ask whether
the orchards have miniature trees for
little hands. And if you want to make
a day of it, bring along a picnic lunch
and call in advance to see whether the
orchard also has hayrides, petting farms
or outdoor places to play, or is hosting
any special. fairs or get-togethers.
A number of orchards also have great gift
shops where you can purchase all kinds of fresh produce, great
jams and jellies, cider, and arts and crafts items. Spicer Or-
chards Farm Market in Fenton has an apple cider slurpee that's
as delicious as it sounds.
