the air. There is a holiday
on the Jewish calendar
that celebrates the crisp outdoors
and the harvest that signals the
end of summer.
Sukkot, the festival of booths,
begins at sundown, Sept. 27, and
lasts for eight days. (It is cele-
brated for seven days by Reform
Jews and in Israel.)
Here's how the holiday is de-
scribed in Leviticus:
"You shall live in booths sev-
en days; all citizens in Israel shall
live in booths in order that future
generations may know that I
made the Israelite people live in
booths when I brought them out
of the land of Egypt" (Leviticus
23:42-43).
