Wishing You And Your Family A Happy & Healthy New Year. SEAGULLS page 73 From Debbie & Michael Wolfe And The Staff At the men of Nantucket. For spe- cial occasions, they wear their Nantucket Red embroidered with whales. The tradition is well known enough that one guest speaker at Friday night services comment- ed to Ms. Bernstein, "I thought you'd all be wearing Nantucket Red yarmulkes with whales." That's all she needed to hear. Soon the creative congregation president was thinking of ways of creating just such a yarmulke. It wasn't easy. "It took us five years, but we finally got enough yardage of Nantucket Red for the project," says Ms. Bernstein. Then she enlisted a friend who is a clothing manufacturer to do the whale embroidery. The whales are then sewn onto the yarmulkes. "They're a huge hit," she says of the Nantucket Red yarmulkes, which sell for a modest $10 each. Orders keep pouring in. Whether it's a scrimshaw mez- zuzah, a Nantucket red yarmulke or a Friday evening service near the sea, this is a congregation which takes pride in its identity. "There's a wonderful sense of community in our congregation," says Ms. Bernstein. "We've not only enriched ourselves as Jews but we've enriched the island as well." ❑ WOLFE TRAVEL CORPORATION Crosswinds Mall 4301 Orchard Lake Road, Suite 205 West Bloomfield, Michigan 48323 810-855-4100 •• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • We Wish Our Wonderful • and Clients • • A Very Friends Healthy and Prosperous • • NEW YEAR • • • • • GOLDSTEIN • • • TRAVEL • • 27080 Evergreen Rd. • • Village, MI 48076 •• • • Lathrup 559-2770 • •• • • •• • • • • • • • • • HAPPY NEW YEAR to all our Customers & Friends!
