Temple Kol Ami will expand
its regular High Holiday services
this year by including an alter-
native adult service which
will be conducted by Rabbi Nor-
man T. Roman and guest Rabbi
Amy Brodsky. Members of the
congregation will serve as read-
ers.
There will be the traditional
sounding of the shofar on Rosh
Hashanah and chanting of Kol
Nidre on Yom Kippur. Rabbi Ro-
man will play the guitar, high-
lighting melodies from Israeli,
youth group and camp sources in
the worship atmosphere.
The alternative service for
Rosh Hashanah will begin at 8:15
a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, and
for Yom Kippur on Sunday, Sept.
22, at 6 p.m.
Regular High Holiday services
(conducted by Rabbi Roman,
Rabbi Emeritus Ernst J. Conrad,
and temple members) for Rosh
Hashanah will begin at 7:30 p.m.
on Friday, Sept. 13; and at 11
a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14. The
schedule continues on Monday
with a multigenerational fam-
ily service and 11 a.m. adult
morning service.
The congregation's annual
Yom Kippur Symposium will be-
gin at 2 p.m. with this year's
speakers: Alan Goodman, Pat
Sachs, and Cheryl Schwartz
speaking on issues of their own
Jewish identity. Afternoon ser-
vices will begin at 3:30 p.m., fol-
lowed by the Yizkor memorial
service at 5:30 p.m., Neliah con-
cluding service at 6:30 p.m., and
the traditional break-the-fast.

Lecture Series
In Flint

Henry Greenspan, clinical psy-
chologist and playwright, who
teaches at the University of
Michigan Ann Arbor, will be the
guest lecturer of the 1996 Max
Hart Lectureship—Temple Beth
El, Flint.
Three separate lectures will be
given on Friday evenings follow-
ing 8 p.m. services. The first
lecture, "Living Voices, Dying
Words: The Core of Survivors
Testimony," will be on Sept. 20.
The second lecture, "Victims and
Heroes: Survivors in the Popular
Imagination," will be Oct.4. The
concluding lecture, "Memory and
Art: Listening to Survivors as a
Psychologist/Playwright," will be
given Oct. 25.
The lectures are a cooperative
venture of Temple Beth El's
Adult Education Committee and
the Department of Judaic Stud-
ies of the University of Michigan,
Aim Arbor.
