2 SHUL=YIDDISH/COLLOQUIALISM FOR SYNAGOGUE
ordan Gorfinkel's
dream just came
true.
"It was always
my life's aspiration
to do a syndicated
comic strip," says
the 29-year-old as-
sociate editor at
D.C. Comics in
New York City.
"This was clear
from the beginning,
meaning when I
was 4 or 5 years old
and happened into
a drugstore and picked up a Su-
perman comic book."
This week, the first install-
ment of Mr. Gorfinkel's weekly
cartoon, "The Promised Land,"
debuts in the Detroit Jewish
News and her sister publications
with the Jewish News Group.
The project came into fruition
half a year ago when Atlanta na-
tive and D.C. Comics marketing
representative Shira Levine
steered Mr. Gorfinkel's talents
our way.
By day, Mr. Gorfinkel helps
manage the Batman comics. By
night, he draws like a madman,

Atlanta Jewish Times.
3 BISSEL=YIDDISH FOR A LITTLE BIT
After that, work is a several-
mile bicycle ride away through
New York City's Central Park.
It's conveniently across the street
from David Letter-
man's studio where
"we see all of their
outdoor shenani-
gans."
In the office, "I'm
the keeper of the
flame," he explains.
"Let's say Warner
Bros. calls and asks
for the fourth Bat-
man movie, 'What
color pajamas would
he wear?' I explain,
`He wouldn't. Bat-
man would be out at
night."
How do people re-
spond when learning
what he does?
"They're a bit wide- Cn
eyed and there's a _
minute delay. 'I'm a "

normal response," he LU
