From All Of Us At Audette Cadillac We Wish You A Happy and Healthy New Year 7100 ORCHARD LAKE RD. at the end of Northwester Highway WEST BLOOMFIELD Rail And Sea Network Planned erusalem — Gaza and the West Bank will have a ful- ly integrated rail system and seaport within three years, provided donor nations ful- fill their promises, said Mo- hammed Jaradat, land transport director-general of the Palestin- ian Authority (PA) Transport Ministry. The PA plan is for the territo- ries to become major links be- tween Cairo, Haifa and Amman, and to thereby become less de- pendent on other Israeli ports for international trade. Mr. Jaradat welcomed Israel National Infrastructure Minis- ter Ariel Sharon's announcement that rail service will be launched from the port of Ashdod to the Erez crossing point within a year. `This is very important for trans- port while we have no seaport in Gaza," he said. Despite Mr. Sharon's an- nouncement, the PA believes the sooner a port is built in Gaza, the cheaper it will be to import and export. Mr. Jaradat, in Egypt last month, was informed of the intention to operate a railway from Cairo to Al Arish by next 41 April. The Egyptian government also confirmed it is constructing a $400-million railway from Is- mailiya to Rafah by 2000. The trans-Palestinian route would branch eastward from the Ashkelon-to-Haifa line, entering the West Bank at Kalkilya, con- tinuing north to Tulkarm and then east to Nablus, with a dry- harbor located five miles west of Nablus. A second line would be operated from Haifa to Afula, on to Jenin and leading eventually into Jordan. Once extended into Jordan, the track could be linked to ex- isting lines between Amman, Zarka, Mafrak and Dara, on a route which already connects to Damascus. If completed, the combined railway extensions in Egypt, Is- rael and Jordan will eventually link Asia to Africa, with a possi- ble future connection, via Lebanon and Syria, into Europe. The total cost for the PA as- pects of the railway and seaport is estimated at $156 million, money the PA is requesting from the donor nations. 851-7200 Migdal Ha'Emek OPEN MON. & THURS. 'TIL 9 P.M.
