Institute Marks
Anniversary

The Sholem Aleichem Institute
will mark the 70th anniversary
of its Yiddish cultural and edu-
cational programs in metropol-
itan Detroit. at a gala dinner on
Saturday, Oct. 19, at 6 p.m. at
the Birmingham Temple.
Members being honored at

the celebration are Frances
Driker, Sarah Friedman, Esther
LaMed, and Peter and Esther
Shifrin. Highlights of their lives
will be part of the festivities.

Winter Tour
For Students

Machon L'Torah will offer an Is-
rael Winter learning tour for stu-
dents and young professionals
led by Rabbi Jacobovitz. In ad-
dition to sightseeing, there will
be lectures, discussions, Jewish
study and general Jewish infor-
mation. Participants will inter-
act with Israeli families.
The tour. will depart Detroit
on Sunday, Dec. 22, and will re-
turn on Friday, Jan. 3.
