Congregation B'nai David has a rich, 104 year old history of maintaining a creative and meaningful home for Tra-
ditional Judaism in Metropolitan Detroit. With our unique approach to contemporary problems, we provide an
open-minded, observant lifestyle in an authentically Jewish tradition that falls between the Orthodox and Con-
servative movements, allowing our congregants to share family seating and offering the option of walking to shul
or using other means.

We believe that Jewish tradition views men and women as equal, but that their roles should be complementary,
not necessarily interchangeable. Jewish law allows considerable latitude for women's participation in synagogue
ritual. In addition to Bar Mitzvah celebrations, B'nai David also has Bat Mitzvahs, which can be observed Friday
night, Saturday or Sunday mornings.

B'nai David is committed to the following:

The Authority of Jewish Law — (Derech HaHalacha v'Samchuta)

Free and Open Inquiry with Intellectual Honesty — (Yosher Da' at)

Love and Respect for Our Fellow Jews — (Ahavat Yisra-el)

Love and Respect for Htunanity and Creation — (Kevod HaBeryi'ot)

B'nai David is unique in its ideology in the Jewish community, and no other body functions on as many levels.
B'nai David has maintained its Nusach — Sephard — in Detroit for the entirety of its existence. We are renowned
for our political activism on behalf of the Jewish community around the world, our pro-Israel activity, and our
efforts against man's inhumanity to man the world round. We are a full service synagogue, offering clergy and lay
support to our members and the community.
