Rivka Tova Garver of Bloomfield
Township will become the third
generation in a row in her fam-
ily to be called to the Torah for
the first time on Shabbat Shu-
vah. Ms. Garver will be bat
mitzvah on Sept. 21 at morning
services at Congregation Beth
Shalom.
Her mom and dad, Allen Wolf
and Mandy Garver, will share the
Torah reading with her. Rivka
will do the remainder of the
Torah reading, the Haftorah, and
Musaf. Her brother, Daniel, will
participate as well.
Rabbi David Nelson and Can-
tor Sam Greenbaum will lead ser-
vices.

vah at Temple Israel on Sept. 6.
Participating in the ceremony
will be his parents, Barbara and
Ron Goldman, and his sister,
Nicole. Scott is the grandson of
Gere and Leo Olivia and Bertha
Goldman and the late Raymond
Goldman. A party will be held in
his honor at Sheraton Oaks.
Scott is a student at Orchard
Lake Middle School and is active
in ice hockey and baseball.

a bat mitzvah at Congregation
Sharrey Zedek on Saturday, Sept.
7. Rabbi Irwin Groner and Can-
tors Chaim Najman and Sidney
Rube will lead services.
Participating in the ceremony
will be Carly's parents, Barbara
and Jules Olsman, and her broth-
er Jake. Grandparents Marjorie
and Harold Grossman of Hunt-
ington Woods will also partici-
pate.
A reception in Carly's honor
will be held Saturday evening at
the Detroit Golf Club. Carly at-
tends Norup Middle School, as
well as Hebrew school at Shar-
rey Zedek. Carly is very active in
figure skating and competes na-
tionally.
Jesse Pious
Jesse Reuben Plous of Leawood,
Kan., will be bar mitzvah at Con-
gregation Kehilath Israel on Sat-
urday, Oct. 12. Rabbi Herbert J.
Mandl and Cantor Earl Berris
will lead services.
Participating in the ceremony
will be his parents, Ronley and
Kathy, and his brothers, Nolan
and Evan. Grandparents are
Anita Pious of Birmingham, and
Marion and Wanda Suminski of
Lake, Mich. Jesse also is the
grandson of the late Dr. Eugene
I. Pious. A kiddush will be held
following services.
Jesse is a student at Hyman
Brand Hebrew Academy. He is
active in Boy Scouts and enjoys
basketball and fishing.
