Chicago took the first game 15-8, but the Detroiters stormed back to win the next three games and the gold medal, 15- 11, 15-7, 15-8. In the decisive third game, Allison Surowitz used a soccer-style kick to save a ball and a crucial point in the match. Coaches Ken Bertin and Sam Skeegan credited the spectacular play of captains Surowitz and Jaimee Weiner, steady performances by Sarah Schreiber and Marci Cohen, crucial saves by Julie Altus and Jenny Weinberg in the back row and Nicole Siegel in the front row.
