U-M Hillel
Plans Calander

The U-M Hillel Foundation will
offer the following activities:
Mezuzah Making and Deli Din-
ner will be Sunday, Sept. 1, 6:30
p.m. at Markley.
Hillel picinic and volleyball
will be Monday, Sept. 2, 5:00 p.m.
at Hillel. •
The American Movement for
Israel will host Israel Tuesday
News Schmooze on Tuesday,
Sept. 3, 6 p.m. at Hillel. It will in-
clude a kosher dinner at Hillel
and a discussion about Israel.
AMI will pick up part of the tab.
The Undergraduate, Gradu-
ate and Young Professionals will
host a Hillel Open House on
Wednesday, Sept. 4, from 8-10
p.m. at Hillel. Refreshments will
be served.
Shulchan Ivrit meets Thurs-
day, Sept. 5, 5:30 p.m. at Cava
Java Cafe.
Kickoff Shabbat will be Friday,
Sept. 6, at 7 p.m. at Hillel. Call

learner's service will precede the
meal in addition to the Reform,
Conservative and Orthodox ser-

On Campus

Hillel of Metro Detroit is acces-
sible to students on several col-
lege campuses throughtout the
Detroit area.
Wayne State University Hil-
lel, 667 Student Center Building,
is open Monday - Thursday 9
a.m.-4:30 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m.-
2:30 p.m. Open house for new
and returning students will be
on Tuesday, Sept. 3; Monday,
Sept. 9; and Tuesday, Sept. 10.
There also will be a Hillel infor-
mation table on the first floor of
the Student Center Building on
Monday, Sept. 9, from 10 a.m.-
4 p.m. Sharon Wise will be at the
Oakland Extension Center on
Wednesdays 3-4 p.m.
Oakland University Jewish

Lecture Series
At Akiva

Akiva Hebrew Day School will
kick off its Middot Lecture Series
for adults on Monday evening,
Sept. 9, at 7:30 p.m. at Young Is-
rael of Oak Park. The speaker
will be Rabbi Raphael Pelcovitz,
rabbi emeritus of Congregation
Knesseth Israel in Far Rock-
away, N.Y. Rabbi Pelcovitz will
speak on "Self Examination:
Pass/Fail."
The Middot Lecture Series is
designed for adults seeking to
enhance within their families
values and ethics that are con-
sistent with the Jewish tradi-

FREE Holds
Group Wedding

Eight recently-arrived couples
from Russia will re-establish
their wedding vows as they en-
ter for the first time into the tra-
ditional Jewish marriage rite of
chuppah. Sponsored by the local
branch of FREE (Friends of
Refugees of Eastern Europe), an
educational and cultural out-
reach organization, the event will
be held on Monday, Sept. 2, 2
p.m. at the Charlotte Rothstein
Park, located behind the Jewish
Community Center on Ten Mile
Road. The eight simultaneous
marriage ceremonies will be per-
formed by prominent rabbis in
the community.
The couples include: Roya and
Viktor Giller, Alla and Boris Gol-
ubev, Lidiya and Yefim Gorivod-
skiy, Ella and Igor Karpenkopf,
Ilona and Eldar Peysakhov,
Lyubov and Peter Peysakhov,
Alexandra and Pavel Ravitsky,
Galina and Igor Yeverovich.
A special feature at this year's
chuppah celebration will be a
concert by the Klezmer Fusion
Band of Ann Arbor. The concert
will feature Yiddish, Russian and
favorite Hebrew melodies.
The public is invited free of
charge to participate in the chup-
pah celebration, reception and
concert.
