HEALTH RISKS page 72 cations in the metro area. The road that ultimately led Ms. Jackier to Avishel began with her activities to promote business between U.S. and Is- raeli companies. In 1984, she founded the American Israel Chamber of Commerce in Michi- gan. While she is still involved with the chamber, Ms. Jackier, after 10 years, decided to go into business "for profit, on my own," and thus was born Avishel. Ms. Jackier's most recent prod- uct is medical magnets, manu- factured by BIOflex Inc. The magnets are applied externally to any painful part of the body to warm the area 'They can't hurt anyone," says Ms. Jackier, "be- cause they won't burn like heat- ing pads can." Ms. Jackier states she has seen a 90-95 percent reduction in pain with use of the magnets "It doesn't [get rid of] painfrom. dis- ease ... but eases the pain dra- matically." The concept of applying heat through magnets is 2,000-3,000 years old and has been used in Europe, the Far East, Canada and IsraeL But it is relatively new to the U.S., says Ms. Jackier.
