Hosts Social

Congregation Bet Chaverim will
host an Ice Cream Social and
Open House for returning, new
and prospective students for its

Congregation B'nai David is ap-
pealing to the community for Birn-
baum Machzorim, nusach
Sephard, both Rosh Hashana and
Yom Kippur editions. These books
are out of print and cannot be or-
dered or replaced.
B'nai David would be grateful
to any family no longer using their
Machzorim if they would donate
them to us.

Adat Shalom
Kabbalat Shabbat

Adat Shalom Synagogue will hold
its annual Kabbalat Shabbat Ser-
vice "Under the Stars" at 7:45 p.m.
on Friday, Aug. 30. An ice-cream
oneg will follow.
Adat Shalom's regular 6 p.m.
service will take place that
evening in addition to the outdoor
service.

Beth Achim
Registration

The Beth Achim Religious School
is accepting registrations for the
coming school year; the locations
are the Beth Achim synagogue in
Southfield and Maple Elementary
School in West Bloomfield.
The Southfield school meets on
Sunday and Tuesday; the satel-
lite location meets on Sunday and
Thursday.

Rabbi Leads
Lunch, Learn

Rabbi Herbert Yoskowitz of Con-
gregation Beth Achim will con-
tinue his weekly lunch and learn
program on Tuesdays from 12:15
to 1:20 p.m. at the synagogue, be-
ginning Aug. 27.
Each Tuesday, Rabbi Yosk-

owitz will use ancient and mod-
ern sources to focus on day-to-day
life as well as on the Jewish cal-
endar and the Jewish life cycle.
There is a charge for the lunch.
Members and non-members are
invited to attend. For information,

Beth Achim
Open Houses

The Membership Committee of
Congregation Beth Achim has
scheduled two prospective mem-
bership open houses on two con-
secutive Sunday afternoons from
2-4 p.m.
On Sunday, Aug. 25, an open
house and ice cream social will be
held in a West Bloomfield home;
on Sunday, Sept. 1, the program
will be held in a Huntington 7_,
Woods home.
Prospective members will have
an opportunity to meet clergy,
staff and current members of the
congregation and learn about the
activities of the synagogue.

Temple Hosts
Family Picnic

The community is invited at no
charge to Temple Israel's annual I
Family Picnic on Labor Day, Mon- =.--\
day, Sept. 2, from 11:30 a.m. to
3:30 p.m. There will be free food,
games, magician and pony rides
for the children. Other activities
are planned.
A dedication ceremony for the
L'Dor V'Dor garden will take place
at 11:30 a.m. that day. Also in con-
junction with the picnic, Temple
Israel's Brotherhood will sponsor
a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Temple Opens
Social Hall

"An Affair To Remember" will in-
troduce Temple Israel's renovat-
ed, redesigned social hall. The
event will take place on Sunday,
Sept. 8, from 1 to 5 p.m.
Dedication of the Herman and
Barbara Frankel Wing will be cel-
ebrated at 2 p.m. At 2:30 p.m., Ja-
cobson's of Laurel Park will
present a bridal fashion show.
Special event exhibitors will dis-
play wedding and b'nai mitzvah
options, with a variety of table set-
tings and creative party themes.
The event is open to the com-
munity at no charge. For infor-
