"Aishet Hayil: A Woman of
Honor," an exhibit on loan from
the Yeshiva University Museum
in New York, runs until Novem-
ber at the Kanner Heritage Mu-
seum of the Baycrest Centre, its
only Canadian stop. The collec-
tion of artworks (ceramics, paint-
ings, sculpture and needlework)
was created by 32 artists from
this continent and Israel. Artists
were commissioned and asked to
choose one line from Aishet Hay-
il which they would interpret in
their art.
Some of the first etchings by
French artists James Tissot, from
the Gotleib Collection, are on
view at the Art Gallery of Ontario
until October. "All About Shoes,"
an exhibit about the significance
stroyed by the Nazis and is of
great historical importance.
Two guided tours of the Royal
Ontario Museum's Judaica
Gallery take place Tuesday, Aug.
27, as a fund-raiser for "Ashke-
naz '97," a festival of new Yiddish
culture. Tours will be led by Dr.
Fred Weinberg, a collector, a will
include a light lunch at his his-
toric home.
There will be a Labor Day
Children's Art Festival at Mel
Lastman Square on Monday,
Sept. 2. The square will be trans-
formed into a giant outdoor stage
for the visual and performing
arts, with creative activities and
