(OURS)

Well ... maybe not half the money, but it will
seem like it when you need a car for the
season. There is an alternative to renting.

Why pay the high prices for a short-term rental,
when you can have all the benefits of a low-cost
lease?

You can lease a late model, full-sized
automobile for as little as 6 months ... no
strings, no long term commitment.

All it takes is one simple call and the car of your
choice will be waiting for you. Call Toll Free

'

ing is down, nonprofit organiza-
tions must devise innovative
ways to secure dollars. The JCC
is in the final stages of firming up
its development department so it
can actively pursue endowments,
grants and other revenue sources.
Former JCC executive direc-
tor Dr. Morton Plotnick will head
the department. In January, the
JCC rented an office for Dr. Plot-
nick in Southfield so he could fo-
cus on generating funds for the
agency. He will return to the
West Bloomfield building in Oc-
tober.
Part of Dr. Plotnick's current
charge includes selling advertis-
ing space in the JCC's gymnasi-
um. "It's something I've talked
about for a long time," Dr. Plot-
nick said. "I believe others cen-
ters have done it."
Dr. Plotnick said signs have
been sold — at $3,500 each per
year— to Tapper's, Shuman Mo-
tors, Optical Direct and Tag
Heuer.
Advertising signs will first ap-
pear in the Maple-Drake gym
and, depending on a customer's
need, may expand to other parts
of the JCC and the Jimmy Pren-
tis Morris building. ❑

A news report of a near-drown-
ing Saturday afternoon in Tama-
rack Lake startled many Jewish
community members, fearful
that the incident happened at
Tamarack Camps in Ortonville.
A 7-year-old Ferndale resident
was rescued by teen-agers, who
found her floating in the water
near shore in Tamarack Lake in
Oakland Township, north of
Rochester. The girl was breath-
ing at the scene by the time res-
cue workers arrived and was
released from the hospital Mon-
day.
The Fresh Air Society's Camp
Maas, originally Camp Tama-
rack, was named after the Tama-
rack Hills Farm which
encompassed much of the prop-
erty and its tamarack trees. The
main lake at the camp, which has
two waterfronts for swimming
and boating, is Phipps Lake.
Tamarack Lake in Groveland
Township is behind the camp's
health center and is often used
as a swamp walk for the
campers. The lake at the former
Camp Tamarack in Brighton,
which was sold in recent years,
is Blaine Lake, according to
Fresh Air Society Director of Ad-
ministration Eliot Sorkin.
The Michigan Department of
Natural Resources says there are
15 Tamarack lakes in the state,
as well one Little Tamarack Lake
and one Tamarac Lake. ❑
