FERNDALE

French Gourmet, 23421 Wood-
ward, Ferndale, 810-541-1200. At
one time a great place to go for French
pastries and desserts, this has become
a full-fledged restaurant with under 30
seats. It serves gourmet-style food at res-
onable prices. Owners Marvin Bernstein
and wife/executive chef Lina Bernstein,
also roast their own coffees and have
added new features from 40 French
syrups to an extensive line of teas,
Parisian vinegars, oils, honeys, preserves
and mustards. Although a complete
restaurant now, French Gourmet is still a
classic authentic French pastry shop and
bakery, with excellent special occasion
and wedding cakes. If going for dinner,
take a tip and make a reservation. Re-
member, seating capacity is small.
