Levin's advice comes from a fellow U-M alumnus and Hopwood Award
winner, Hollywood director/screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan. "When
I was 19 years old and a
student at Michigan, I ran
into Lawrence Kasdan at

him if he had any tips for
someone who wanted to
break into writing for film
or TV. He looked down at
his feet, paused for a second
and said: 'Write.' I cursed
him under my breath. I
didn't want him to say,
`Write.' I wanted him to say,
`Come into my office and
make you a star.' But in
the end, I went back and
wrote for quite a few years
and I am still writing. And
