In Hebrew, the modern term
for going out and having a good
time is Levalot, which actually
means to wear something out, to
turn a usable garment into an out-
worn rag. Its equivalent is the
American phrase "to kill time." We
should recognize the inherent de-
struction arising from the failure
to manage time, to discipline one's
use of time.
An individual can commit sui-
cide in one moment or in a life-
time of wasted moments. The
years a person is given are not
under our control, but we have
moments God has given us — if
we choose not to waste those pre-
cious moments then we have cho-
sen life. ❑

Shabbaton
For Singles

Dr. Anita Turtletaub of Chica-
go's Midwest Jewish Singles will
present a Shabbaton over the
Labor Day Weekend, Friday,
Aug. 30, through Sunday, Sept.
1, at Bais Chabad of West
Bloomfield. The Shabbaton is
primarily for Orthodox Jewish
Singles over 30.
The keynote speaker will be
Rabbi Shmuel Kaplan, who will
talk on topics of interest to sin-
gles. Other activities planned
are a melava malka on Satur-
day night, lake-front brunch
Sunday morning.
For those wishing to come on
Thursday evening, there is no
additional charge and a visit is
set for Cranbrook Museum and
Science Center Friday during
the day.

Goes To Races

Temple Israel's Singles Exten-
sion Group invites Jewish sin-
gles 50 and over to an Evening
at the Races on Thursday, Aug.
22, at Hazel Park Raceway.

full-course buffet dinner, racing
