tion is perhaps overblown.
"I think we have a lot of work
to do in a lot of ways," he said.
"What's great about West Bloom-
field is that we have a lot of eth-
nic groups living together. As
Jews we have to reach out. I don't
know who we have to reach out
to in particular when one person
puts an ad in a newspaper. But
we do have to keep our lines of
communication between different
groups open. But I don't see this
as a major problem."
Jewish Federation Executive
Director Robert Aronson said, "I
think that whenever the Jewish
card is played the organized Jew-
ish community has a responsibil-
ity to assess the situation and to
ensure that we are not unfairly
characterizing- people for political
reasons, because it's a reflection
on the Jewish community as a
whole." ❑
Sign Destruction:
Sign Of The Times

on Wolf, one of eight Re-
publican candidates run-
ning for the Parks and
Recreation Commission in
West Bloomfield, was arrested
last week on charges of malicious
destruction of property after po-
lice videotaped him destroying po-
litical lawn signs.
West Bloomfield police set up
a hidden camera inside the for-
mer town hall on Orchard Lake
Road after candidates for town-
ship races complained about the
removal and destruction of their
signs.
The camera recorded Mr. Wolf
as he made several visits to the
area outside the hall, popular for
the placement of political signs.
When the camera recorded Mr.
Wolf tearing up the signs, he was
arrested, said West Bloomfield
Police Sgt. Michael Madigan.
Mr. Wolf pleaded not guilty. If
convicted, he faces a maximum
penalty of 90 days in jail and a
$100 fine. He was released on
$5,000 personal bond on the un-
derstanding that he will not de-
stroy any signs.
"I knocked down the signs of
the person who took away my
First Amendment rights," said
Mr. Wolf, referring to an incident
with Township Supervisor Jeddy
Hood.
In that incident, Mr. Wolf was
not allowed to continue speaking
at a July 15 township board meet-
ing because, according to Ms.
Hood, he became argumentative
and accusatory.
Last week, Mr. Wolf filed a law-
suit in Oakland County Circuit
Court against Ms. Hood, the
police commissioner and the
township for violating his First
Amendment rights. ❑
