Pastor Attends
Shabbat Services

Vigil Humes, pastor of New Hope
Missionary Baptist Church, and
members of his Wayne congre-
gation will be guests of Temple
Israel and the American Jewish
Committee, Detroit Chapter, 8
p.m., Friday, Aug. 2, at Temple
Israel.
Recently vandalized, New Hope
Missionary Church has been high-
lighted in the media as one of the
Michigan area churches which
have been attacked by racists.
Reverend Humes is a volunteer
in the Romulus and Wayne-West-
land school districts and active in
the Council of Baptist Pastors in
Detroit and Vicinity. He serves on
the advisory council of Wayne
County Community College,
Western Campus. He is one of the
local religious leaders speaking
out regarding the recent arson at-
tacks on churches.
During this special Sabbath
service, he will focus his remarks
on the experiences he and his
congregation have endured. Both
Temple Israel and the American
Jewish Committee have been ac-
tive in raising money and have
worked to disseminate informa-
tion on the national rebuilding
churches effort.
This service is open to the com-
munity and will include a re-
freshment reception following the
service. Child care is offered. For
reservations for your child, call
(810) 661-5700. For further in-
formation about the service or the
national rebuilding effort, call
(810) 646-7686. There is no
charge.
