This was an extremely suc-
cessful event. Volunteers came
out and helped demolish two sites
where new homes will be built in
the future.
Jacki Gold, who co-chaired
the event, said, "It was a lot of
fun, and everyone got a lot out
of this event. The neighbors
in the area were great. They
came out and helped and even
brought out their hoses to cool
us down. It was a great mix of
people who showed up, a nice
cross-section of our community."

he 17th annual Walk and
Auction for Scleroderma
was a huge success. About
300 people attended the
event on Sunday, June 23, and
helped raise $25,500 to support
patient services and medical re-
T
search.
Scleroderma literally means
"hard skin." Scleroderma causes
hardening of the skin and multi-
ple organs. Although scleroder-
ma strikes every age, sex and
ethnic background, four times
more females — especially dur-
ing child-bearing years — are af-
flicted with the disease than
males.
EYE spotted local registered
dietitian/exercise physiologist
Beverly Price at the walk with
her husband David and baby
Elana. Beverly was diagnosed
about 8 years ago with the dis-
ease and often speaks for the
United Scleroderma Foundation
on nutrition.
"My mother-in-law has scle-
roderma, and I feel it is some-
thing that is very important to
support," said Hadassah's Ru-
ach President Kari Provizer.
"They are trying to find a cure,
and these types of events are im-
portant to promote awareness
and raise money."
Save the date, Sunday, No-
vember 3, for the United Sclero-
derma Foundation's Seventh
Annual Movie Gala Event.
