make us think Pinchas was more
qualified. We watch crisis-laden
soap operas; we watch crisis-
packed movies; we read crisis-
covered newspapers. We've
turned our lives into a constant
quest for crisis. This state of af-
fairs has reached such a point
that "normal" everyday activity
seems mundane and boring, un-
worthy of conversation.
This situation can only lead to
very unhealthy consequences. A
lack of concern for day-to-day life
leads to a complete ignorance of
the means towards life's im-
provement and fulfillment. Even-
tually, normal everyday life must,
and often does itself become a cri-
sis.
From where will be learn to en-
joy life if we do not spend time to
understand its inherent value?
How will our children learn to
make their days meaningful if
our only concern is the crisis in
life, the crisis in the world, and
the crisis in the movie theater?
We may know what we would
do if our children came home and
told us 'X' or 'Y.' We may know
how to handle the knowledge
that we have 'A' or B.' We may
also be able to raise our children
prepared for most of life's crises
and disasters. But what a disas-
ter their life will surely be if we
do not teach them how to deal
with life's routine.
The non-crisis arena is the one
that holds the real challenge for
us all today. If we can learn to en-
joy the greater part of life, nei-
ther we nor our children will need
the experience of crisis to enjoy
and make meaningful the expe-
rience of life.
