Dr. Mark Diem: Victim of attack.

Warren police said Mr. Yaden,
a 39-year-old Eastpointe resident,
was apparently enraged that Dr.
Diem, 51, refused to refill a pre-
scription for pain killers and at-
tacked him outside the Family
Health and Occupational Center
in Warren just before 9 a.m.
Mr. Yaden suffers from chron-
ic back pain.
Dr. Diem, the head of Congre-
gation Shaarey Zedek's Men's
Club, was outside the Van Dyke
Road building with another man
to inspect the roof, and although
his companion tried to intercede
when Mr. Yaden began to strike
Dr. Diem, he was no match for the
attacker, police said.
Less than an hour after the at-
tack, Mr. Yaden called police to
turn himself in. He was arraigned
on Friday, June 28, on a charge of
attempted murder, which carries
a maximum penalty of life in
prison. He is being held on $1 mil-
lion bond. A preliminary exami-
nation is set for July 9.
Warren police said Mr. Yaden
had an appointment with a dif-
ferent doctor June 27, although
he had previously been treated by
Dr. Diem.
Police said Mr. Yaden's pre-
scription for the drug Vicoden ES
was not yet up for a refill.
Mr. Yaden has no prior crimi-
nal convictions, according to po-
lice. ❑
